Here are the cornerstones of our policy:
– We acquire and retain only the minimum amount of data necessary in order to create the best possible relationship and service for you.
– We only use your data in accordance with the ways in which it was intended when you first freely gave it to us, and in correspondence to your own enquiries about our service, which can be determined as “legitimate interest”.
– We will delete your data when it is no longer needed and can remove it upon your request.

What information does Elm Hill Craft Shop hold of yours?
At times, we may collect some (or all) of the following details: your name, phone number, email address, IP address, social identifiers (for example, age, gender, socio-economic status), data provided by cookies and other similar technologies. Whilst we don’t use it at the moment, we may in the future collect registration and system data, your purchasing history, contact permissions and product preferences, but you will be expressly asked for your permission before this information is captured.
We may also retain, where appropriate, security credentials for certain cloud-based applications, or social networks, and existing website and analytics login details in order to execute our deliverables.
All of your data will be processed and stored securely and encrypted wherever possible.
Why are we collecting this information of yours?
Fundamentally, this data is captured in order to improve the relationship we (Elm Hill Craft Shop) have with you (our website visitor or service user). That channel is the only one the data flows between and we promise to never pass any of your details on to anybody outside of our own organisation.
So how do we make these improvements? We use your data to refine our offering to make it a better fit for you. We use analytics data to track your journeys through our website, although you are never explicitly identifiable by these analytics; just broader details about your location, interest preferences and so on.
We may use your data to communicate with you, but only in those ways which you have expressly allowed us to. If at any time you wish to terminate these lines of communication, the data is yours to remove.
How do I opt out, or remove my details?
for automated email correspondence, we use Mailchimp and every email comes with the option of Unsubscribing, found at the bottom.
if you have registered your details for an event, or made a purchase through our website, you will be able to log on – the links are accessible from the top and bottom of every page of this website, and delete your account.
stuck? if you have any concerns at all about the retention of your details and would like us to remove them, email lucy@elmhillcraftshop.co.uk and we’ll be happy to do it for you.
How long do we keep your data for?
Unless otherwise requested, we will hang on to your data for six years from the time you first gave it to us. we may perform an audit before that date and remove any email addresses which we deem to be redundant. we may contact you once before removing you, to make sure you’re happy to be removed.
What about cookies?
We do use cookies on this website, and it’s for the purposes we stated above; for the improvement of our services and relationship with you. these can be split into those we use directly, and other, third-party cookies.
First-party cookies: this is primarily the use of Google analytics and an intermediary plugin, MonsterInsights, both of which are GDPR compliant services. We use this information solely for the purposes of monitoring and improving our website.
Third-party cookies: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and other social platforms all have the ability to track usage on our website, although we use them infrequently. These services, like the Facebook Pixel, are again used to monitor usage of our website and glean a better understanding of our customers. This does, of course, mean that we are trying to build intelligence to sell our services, but we are always explicit about the way in which we operate our sales channels. Third party cookies are cookies created by an external service when you use a page on our website. These cookies are specific to the third-party’s domain and accordingly the data held in them can be seen and managed by the third party and not by us. We control whether or not we use the third-party service with our website, and how it is integrated and presented on our website. We do not have control over the cookies themselves.
